2-year Fixed Term contract

Are you motivated to make a difference in the field of river restoration and environmental management? Working in the UK and Europe at the interface between science and practice, we are seeking a Science and Technical Officer to lead our involvement in a Citizen Science EU Horizon 2020 project and to participate in the development of tools and techniques for river restoration.

The River Restoration Centre (RRC) is the UK’s independent, information and advisory centre, supporting all aspects of river restoration, habitat enhancement and best practice river management. We are funded through UK environmental agency agreements, project work and training.

Your main duty will be to coordinate RRC’s involvement in the EU Horizon 2020 MICS project. You will be responsible for the coordination of a series of river restoration and citizen science case studies across four countries. This will involve communicating, travelling and undertaking the design and implementation of survey tools and techniques in the UK, Italy, Romania and Hungary.

You will also work on the RRC’s other activities providing technical specialist advice, training, developing and delivering new training courses, and applying for and running research grants and scoping river restoration opportunities.

You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification (such as physical geography or geomorphology or similar) and be keen to work across physical and social science disciplines. You will need to demonstrate proven analytical and interpretive skills, alongside extensive relevant work experience that includes managing and delivering projects.

With a sound understanding of river processes, management and restoration, you will have organised and facilitated workshops and training events, and be good at working with public, private, third-sector and local volunteer groups. You will have the ability to write complex technical and/or scientific reports as well as simple non-technical summaries and guidance for a wide audience.

You will be able to quickly integrate into a small busy team of highly motivated individuals sharing a common purpose: protecting rivers, restoring natural processes, communicating knowledge and guiding best practice.

For an informal discussion, please contact Marc Naura, RRC Science and Technical Manager, on +44 (0)1234 752979 or (E); rrc@theRRC.co.uk

The River Restoration Centre (RRC) is based at Cranfield. Your employment contract will be with Cranfield University under a long-standing service agreement, whilst your role is directly working for The River Restoration Centre ltd.

Interviews will be held on 22 May 2019
