The Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is 190 square kilometres (75 square miles) and has a population of 27,000. The AONB contains part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, which borders Dartmoor National Park and is recognised internationally as an IUCN Category V protected landscape.

Within this the postholder will support the Tamara Development Manager with the development of the Stage 2 NLHF (National Lottery Heritage Fund) Landscape Partnership bid, partnership development and securing project funding. The role will work closely with public, private and voluntary sector partners and ensure the involvement of local communities (including Plymouth city and the surrounding market towns). 

The role will develop proposals where outputs deliver multiple benefits for culture, heritage, ecosystem services and local communities creating sustainable connections and establishing new audiences. 


  • To support the Tamara Landscape Partnership Development Manager in the development of the Tamara Landscape Conservation Action Plan (LCAP) its policies and projects.
  • To nurture and strengthen effective relationships and working partnerships that deliver new and innovative approaches with a broad range of communities, stakeholders and partners.
  • To provide advice in specialist areas such as community engagement, ecological enhancement, and land management.

Tamara Landscape Partnership Development phase 

  • Identify key areas for practical restoration and enhancement of landscape and heritage features across the project area.
  • Engage with landowners, land managers and their representative organisations and secure their support for the Landscape Conservation Action Plan and any practical outputs during the delivery phases.
  • Work with consultants to identify needs and opportunities for land management enhancements and improving connectivity across the project area.
  • Design and cost delivery of the key project themes.
  • To lead on the development, commissioning and procurement of contracts and works for Tamara Landscape Partnership (TLP) projects, including close liaison with, Cornwall Council Procurement, and Legal Services.
  • To manage budget control for portions of the TLP budget ensuring that value for money is achieved and that spending is allocated in accordance with agreed priorities.
  • Secure all necessary permissions and third party agreements for project work.
  • Work flexibly and responsibly, taking on new responsibilities as appropriate during the development phase.


  • Champion and raise the profile of the Tamar Valley locally, regionally and nationally to ensure the national importance of the area is recognised.

This is a fixed term contract until 31/08/2020. 

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies
