3Keel LLP ( is a specialist sustainability consultancy working on product supply chains, natural resource use and organisational strategy development. We work with others to make a better future for people and the environment. We do this through ideas, evidence, and by bringing people together.

The 3Keel partnership is a values-driven organisation founded in 2013, to bring together individuals from different backgrounds that are friendly, curious and practical. Our work focuses on climate change, sustainable commodities, sustainable product and packaging design, and approaches for re-invigorating landscapes. We were recently recognised by the FT as being one of the UK’s top sustainability consultancies.

3Keel is now looking for a Technical Sustainability Lead who can play a pivotal role in delivering a step change improvement in the quality and range of information and evidence available to our clients to develop robust sustainability strategies – and more importantly help scale the impact of our work through the development of a technical team. This is a great opportunity for an experienced self-starter, who relishes the thought of working autonomously in a new and fast-changing working environment.

About the role

We are looking to recruit someone into this newly created role who will work confidently as a senior member of the 3Keel team. The role will involve:

  • Developing our data services team and recruiting new staff
  • Leading and managing large scale projects
  • Supporting the delivery of commodity supply chain projects (e.g. soy, palm oil) that involve collecting data from hundreds of suppliers
  • Identifying & developing new data approaches and services to scale our impact efficiently
  • Improving the quality, efficiency and impact of 3Keel’s advice to clients through better use of data & software
  • Providing research support to the wider 3Keel team on the commodity issues addressed by this role
  • Providing analytical work to support consulting projects

Our current portfolio of work includes helping leading retailers, brands, public bodies and NGOs on a range of significant environmental and ethical challenges. From improving the sustainability of ‘high-risk’ commodities such as palm oil and soy, through to delivering complex circular economy programmes that reduce plastic waste. See case studies at:

Essential skills:

  • Proven work experience as data analyst, or similar role
  • Team development, staff recruitment and management
  • Proven business development track record
  • Driven to succeed
  • Undergraduate degree in physical, environmental, or computer science
  • Advanced MS Excel user
  • Committed to using data capabilities for finding new opportunities for sustainability
  • Highly organised and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, but also to contribute to wider team efforts
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Desirable skills:

  • VBA/Macros and the development of ‘user friendly’ tools/front-ends
  • Data collection, cleaning and management – including data scraping
  • Experience of using Business Intelligence packages (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Qlik) and the creation of data visualisations.
  • Experience of working with APIs
  • Comfortable holding and leading remote meetings
  • Experience of working in grocery retail or fast-moving consumer goods sectors
  • Understanding of environmental and ethical issues affecting business operations and supply chains

Expectations and career progression

You will be appointed to a unique position in our business, as we start to proactively expand a ‘data services’ arm of the business. You will be expected to seize the opportunity to develop something new and exciting at a relatively new company. You will be expected to also support our existing consulting practice, and to act as a trainer and enabler to the wider team on data projects and tools. 3Keel is expanding, and we see significant potential for growth in our supply chain services, with associated rewards and progressions for key team members. Our business structure encourages staff progression, with the potential to become a Partner in the future.
