Summary

A rare opportunity to work in an international communications team working with global businesses and governments based in London. The Climate Group is looking for a talented and ambitious communications professional to join our integrated communications team, which works with a goal of building the profile and influence of The Climate Group in ways which help us achieve our mission. 

The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to play a critical role in driving the communications for the Under2 Coalition, for which The Climate Group acts as the Secretariat. This is an entry level position in our communications team which requires some past work experience. The role reports into the Communications Manager for the Under2 Coalition. 

We are undergoing an exciting period of evolution and are investing to match the growing leadership of our organization in accelerating global climate action across areas such as electric vehicles and renewable energy. About the role

This is a new role supporting integrated communications for The Climate Group. It sits within the section of the communications team that supports our work with governments. The focus of the role is supporting communications for the Under2 Coalition of state and regional governments committed to climate action. The postholder will play a key role in communicating with our audiences, to raise the profile of our work, projects and events. This will include working across the full spectrum of communications and stepping in to support colleagues and key organisational priorities as required.

Key areas of focus will include

Content creation 

  • Researching and drafting compelling news stories, blogs, Q&As, social media posts and other required communications materials which helps to increase engagement with our audience/s
  • Monitoring news from members of the coalition and sharing where relevant
  • Seeking opportunities to link the actions of our government and business stakeholders to topical global issues and news
  • Supporting on reports, briefings and case studies – copyediting, social media promotion, and feeding in ideas for design, launch, media 
  • Supporting the Communications Manager with developing key messages for the Under2 Coalition and projects
  • Collating a base of materials, references, facts and figures to provide proof-points for our messaging and to inform all our communications

Communications planning 

  • Delivering day-to-day communications for the Under2 Coalition and its key projects 
  • Managing the calendar of upcoming communications moments - including fielding and conducting initial assessment of requests
  • Engaging directly with partners and stakeholders to build relationships to support communications planning
  • Utilizing news, external policy discussions and social media to identify potential topical hooks for our work and the projects, suggesting ideas to colleagues
  • Identify links and synergies between the work of the Under2 Coalition team and the Business Actions team to promote the work of The Climate Group 

Digital 

  • Planning and drafting social media content for the Under2 Coalition and occasionally for The Climate Group ensuring the integration of the latest digital trends into our plans and outputs
  • Develop, manage and update content for Under2 Coalition website ensuring best web practice and suggesting ideas for innovation 
  • Lead on the compilation of regular external e-newsletters
  • Track and report on website, social and newsletter statistics and suggesting ideas for improvement based on data 

Media 

  • Field inquiries from stakeholders including media and governments
  • Supporting corporate communication team with media work for the Under2 Coalition 
  • Supporting events, e.g. Climate Week NYC – communicating with members, promoting, supporting profiling of the Under2 Coalition and its members in key moments
  • Maintain library system for Under2 Coalition media mentions 

Brand

  • Act as a brand champion for The Climate Group and the Under2 Coalition, promoting consistency and clarity
  • Help maintain reputation and seek opportunities to build brand of The Climate Group and/or Under2 Coalition

Administration

  • Ensuring efficient management of logos, images and all digital assets 
  • Planning agendas for meetings, writing-up action points and driving those forward
  • Liaising with regional TCG offices – supporting outputs from a global perspective
  • Keep up to date on relevant issues/policies
  • Occasionally supporting business programs and The Climate Group corporate communications as required 

About you

We are looking for a talented and ambitious communications professional to join our growing team. As an adaptable self-starter, you will be proactive, take initiative and seek feedback from colleagues to ensure continuous improvement in everything you work on. You will have a passion for storytelling, a flair for copywriting and excellent written English skills, as well as a natural ability to simplify complex information. You will be able to thrive in an evolving landscape and keen to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced environment working with colleagues in the UK and internationally across different projects. 

Essential: 

  • Excellent written English language and proofreading skills with a high level of attention to detail 
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a communications team or press office
  • Experience of managing social media platforms, editing/building website pages/content and e-newsletter software
  • Excellent ability to learn, process and build-up knowledge and expertise on communicating technical issues related to government, energy and transition to a zero-carbon economy
  • Experience of handling media and being part of a wider effort to raise an organisation’s profile
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player, able to work independently and effectively with others
  • Proactive, innovative, solutions-focused approach and ability to prioritize actions
  • Technical command over MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT etc)

Desirable 

  • Experience working for or with state or regional level governments
  • Degree in communications/business/economics/environment/politics or other
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop 
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Suite (editing)
  • Experience of working or volunteering internationally
  • Ability to communicate in languages other than English

Location

You will be based in our London head office, in County Hall, which is a five-minute walk from Waterloo station. 

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time, two-year fixed term position, with potential to become permanent. We offer starting salary of £23,000 per annum or more based on experience. In addition to the salary, the role holder will benefit from:
