Job Purpose and Background

CDP is offering an exciting opportunity for somebody with an interest in climate change and climate change data, policy, finance and business to support CDP’s technical work. This role will have a particular focus on gathering data and indicators from company reports and various databases, helping pull together data structures, and modelling and calculations of raw and derived indicators to feed assessments of companies with respect to climate change.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, efficient and passionate and who takes pride in working to a high standard. The successful applicant will work as part of the Scoring team on the development and application of the Assessing low-Carbon Transition project (ACT). This project aims to measure a company’s contribution to a low-carbon economy, this evolution from CDP’s current scoring approach will require a candidate that is comfortable working in a creative manner but has strong analytical and process-defining skills. They will be part of the scoring team and will need to work in close relationship with the Forests, Water, Supply Chain and Climate Change programmes and the relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining clear data management processes for the collection of data in preparation for assessments of companies to maintain traceability of the data and reproducibility of assessment results.
  • Managing the data collection process: from CDP data, data mining of other sources, data cleaning, consolidation into a common data structure and map any transformations of indicators into derived indicators.
  • Preparation of scripts so that assessments can be automated for assessment of raw indicators, derived indicators and calculation of numeric indicators to provide automated benchmark scores.
  • Preparation and templating of feedback reports in conjunction with scoring colleagues.
  • Liaising with IT and the team to develop and deliver system requirements for the data management and ELT processes.
  • Delivering on the ACT scores for the Auto manufacturers, and prepare the assessments for Electric Utilities and Oil and Gas companies.
  • Helping in any other technical tasks that might be necessary within the Technical Team, the Supply Chain programme or CDP more generally.

Required skills and experience:

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. V look-ups, pivot tables etc.)
  • Good background in environment, GHG and/or financial accounting and current issues related with these disciplines, and the willingness to develop a high level of knowledge (Master’s preferred);
  • A self starter willing to take ownership and develop processes to improve the overall delivery of scoring;
  • A positive and enthusiastic team player with the ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to deliver results to tight deadlines;
  • Attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards;
  • Experience in working with Customer Relations Manager systems and the data from it;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

This is a full-time role on a one-year fixed term contract based at CDP’s London office reporting to the Senior Manager, ACT.

Salary and benefits: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum, annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (increasing to 30), generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.
