Q&S' Biodiversity capabilities have developed, to the point where we created a subsidiary brand - Q&S Biodiversity Consultancy & Management. Q&S have extensive experience in providing various biodiversity services to our clients, from consultancy through to management, including drafting, managing and implementing Biodiversity Trackers which we have designed to be fully compliant with the stringent requirements of the Wildlife Trusts prestigious Biodiversity Benchmark Award.

Q&S are building on the success we have had in Biodiversity by actively developing this across our Client portfolio. Whilst some sites will not qualify for inclusion onto the full award, Q&S believe that the implementation of a Biodiversity structure that mirrors the Wildlife Trusts' standard, can only be a net gain for our Clients in terms of biodiversity and sustainability.


We’re looking for a Biodiversity Assistant with practical management and people skills, with lots of enthusiasm and energy to join our team initially for a year. This is a great opportunity to build up valuable work experience in the biodiversity sector working alongside our senior management team.

We are a small friendly multidisciplinary team based in London and Berkshire. We involve many other organisations so you’ll be part of this wider community too.

What you’ll be doing

You'll be the go-to person for biodiversity, land management and practical tasks within the team. You’ll organise and run projects, events and training, as well as co-ordinating surveying and monitoring of species and habitats, along with ensuring effective management of the Biodiversity Trackers.

  • Evaluate biodiversity potentials on a variety of sites
  • Liaise with different clients about site biodiversity potentials and manage their expectations
  • Monitor biodiversity across different sites in London and Berkshire
  • Help with any biodiversity issues on sites, contacting contact appropriate wildlife charities if needed
  • Write biodiversity relevant social media and blogs posts
  • Assist with practical habitat management
  • Implement biodiversity action plans
  • Work with a variety of landscaping teams, help coordinate biodiversity practices
  • Organise and run environmental events eg. floristry, nature walks / talks
  • Plan annual events calendars on different sites, ensuring risk assessments and work permits issued

You’ll play a key role in helping to deliver an outstanding landscapes rich in wildlife, enabling people to access, enjoy, understand and connect with the landscape.

Who we're looking for

We are a committed, hardworking and friendly team, knowledgeable and passionate about biodiversity and we are looking for like-minded people to join us.

You’ll need to have:

  • Excellent wildlife identification (specifically ornithology)
  • Excellent understanding of existing wildlife legislation and habitat management
  • Good research and writing skills surrounding ecology and ongoing biodiversity news
  • Ability to inspire, engage and involve others, and be confident in leading events
  • Confidence to liaise with Q&S and Client management teams
  • Excellent organisational and office/ICT skills and experience (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ArcGIS)
  • Clean Driving licence
  • A passion for wildlife, the outdoors (in all weathers!) landscaping and nature conservation
  • Enthusiasm, energy, self-motivation and a willingness to learn and develop

The role is 40 hours per week and will require occasional weekend, bank holiday and evening working and some lone working. The post is initially for 1 year (sabbatical cover) starting in April 2019.
