Sectors: ecology

Closing date: Monday, 15th April 2019

Nicholas Pearson Associates is an established and respected consultancy with complementary expertise in ecology, environmental assessment, landscape architecture and visualisation. Our highly regarded team of ecologists provide the full spectrum of ecological services whilst maintaining excellent professional standards together with a high degree of scientific integrity.

We are seeking to appoint Field Surveyors, to help support our ecology team during the great crested newt survey season. This will be a great opportunity to learn some practical survey skills, as well as gaining experience of working within a busy environmental consultancy. Although our office is based near Bath, as we have a number of projects within the southeast of England and around Gloucestershire, we are happy to accept applicants based within these regions. Whilst the roles are primarily to assist with the great crested newt surveys, there may be an opportunity to undertake other surveys. For the projects in the south-east, we would also be interested in hearing from more experienced ecologists, who already have experience in undertaking great crested newt surveys.

There is both full and part time opportunities depending on the experience of the applicants, locations and project requirements.

Applicants should be conscientious, self-motivated team players with a professional attitude. They need to be organised, have an excellent eye for detail and be capable of keeping accurate records of data collected whilst in the field. Candidates must be willing to work in the field 8 to 10 hours per day for five days a week.

Candidates should have:

  • A full UK driving licence and a willingness to travel;
  • Enthusiasm and a genuine passion for wildlife;

The following would also be highly desirable:

  • An honours degree in ecological science, or equivalent;
  • A GCN licence (Level 1) – particularly for the projects in the southeast of England.

Applicants ideally will be able to work immediately through to June, although this may be extended to September.

We will provide a competitive rate of pay on an hourly rate, depending on experience.

To apply for the post please send a covering letter, CV and completed application form (downloadable from our website) preferably in digital format as a PDF by e-mail to or by post for the attention of Ceri Griffiths at Nicholas Pearson Associates, The Farm House, Church Farm Business Park, Corston, Bath.
