Global Generation has an established network of urban food-growing sites in and around King’s Cross, West Euston and Canada Water. Our work connects people of all ages to nature in the middle of the city. We focus on the development of the whole person, providing support for children and young people to become catalysts for change in their communities. We integrate values-based reflective learning into practical sessions, enabling people to grow themselves, grow relationships and grow a new vision for the future.

We are looking for a gardener who is passionate about involving the community in gardening. As the Education & Community Gardener, you will be responsible for engaging local young people, families and volunteers in Global Generation’s gardening projects and you will work side by side with the garden team to help install and maintain its various gardens in and around King’s Cross.

As the Education & Community Gardener for King’s Cross you will:

  • Develop the vision alongside the education team and garden team on how best to involve young people and the community in all aspects of Global Generation’s gardens
  • Involve children, young people, local residents and families in Global Generation’s gardening projects Skip Garden, Story Garden, community and school gardens
  • Coordinate the Twilight Gardening sessions which take place fortnightly on Wednesday evenings from Spring to Autumn and co-run them with another gardener
  • Work with vulnerable people and people with special needs - such as vulnerable families, young people with learning disabilities, older people living in supported housing, refugee and asylum seekers, children from Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate gardening workshops for children and young people taking part in our existing programmes, such as Nature Explorers and the Generator programme (youth leadership programme)
  • Coordinate, plan and run Family Saturday sessions at the Story Garden, in collaboration with the Story Garden Manager, Community Chef and other gardeners
