About this opportunity

Walsall Council’s Public Health department have commissioned Soil Association Food for Life (FFL) to deliver a Food for Life Whole Settings approach to healthy eating in Walsall over three years. The aim is to work with early years and schools based on the Food for Life approach to good food across the borough. The programme will provide skills, knowledge and confidence to lead healthy food behaviours and practices across a range of people and organisations including early years and school staff, caterers, children and their families. 

About the role 

We are looking for a Local Programme Officer to support the existing local team (one Local Programme Manager and one Local Programme Officer) to deliver our programme. The programme aims to change the food environment and food culture of the target schools and early years settings in Walsall, with the goal of driving positive dietary change and maximising the health and wellbeing benefits of food. 

Your role

As one of two Local Programme Officers you will be part of an established team assisting in all aspects of programme delivery. You will be the key contact for engaging settings, including early years and primary schools, with responsibility for guiding settings through Food for Life activities to enable them to achieve an award or develop their food culture. 

About you 

To be effective as a Local Programme Officer, you will have experience of least one of the following organisations/settings

  • early years/nurseries
  • schools (preferably primary)
  • food service and/or catering companies, preferably coordinating or delivering projects with a food and/or health focus.

You will have great communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to create extensive links within the locality and ensure excellent communications with a wide range of stakeholders. You will understand safeguarding issues when working with children and vulnerable adults. In addition you will need be well organised, self-motivated and have a passion for the aims and objectives of the Soil Association and Food for Life.
