Hours of Work: Full-time basis weekly hours being 45 hours per week, there is the requirement to fulfil weekend and public holiday work on a flexible team rota pattern; the postholder will also be required to participate in an on-call rota.

The postholder will be expected to undertake regular site visits

The Company are seeking to appoint an Environmental Monitoring Technician to join their team servicing a major client in the Oxfordshire, Thames Valley and Greater London area.

The primary purpose of the role will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis.

Environmental Monitoring Technician Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling.
  • Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents and provision of accurate and timely information to line management.
  • Supporting team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels.
  • Any other duties for which the post holder is qualified and able to carry out.
  • This list is not exhaustive and the postholder will be required to satisfy any other task for which they are qualified and experienced to undertake.

Environmental Monitoring Technician Requirements:

  • As there will be the requirement to drive in the pursuance of Company business, a clean UK driving licence is essential for this role.
  • Applicants should possess a Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline.
  • Have an understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters.
  • Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial.
  • Applicants should possess experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers is essential; understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency and laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance will be an advantage.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills are essential as are excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants should be motivated, friendly and confident when interacting with clients and consistently deliver excellent service whilst representing the Company in a positive manner.
