The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to join our experienced, friendly and supportive Oxford team, and one of the largest independent ecological consultancies in the UK.

Our office is in a small business park on a diversified farm at Cassington, just north of Oxford; staff can make use of a heated swimming pool, tennis courts and an on-site café.

The Principal Ecologist role will involve mentoring staff, managing and technically directing a range of projects, and working with the other Principal Consultants in the Oxford office to co-ordinate staff commitments. The applicant would report to the Oxford office Partner, Peter Shepherd, and would attend meetings of the cross-practice Senior Management Group.

What we are looking for

An ideal candidate will have:

  • At least six years applied professional experience
  • A wide range of ecological survey experience including European Protected Species licensing.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the planning system and current wildlife legislation.
  • Experience of Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret data, to provide clear and concise written advice, to technically review a variety of written outputs, and to resolve complex ecological issues.
  • The ability to mentor and manage other staff, organise the team and represent the office in cross-practice discussions.
  • Experience of various aspects of project management, including financial management.
  • The desire to promote high standards in ecology and an interest and aptitude in business development.
  • Full membership of CIEEM (CEcol would be advantageous) and a good BSc and/or MSc in a relevant subject.
