We are looking for a recent graduate or an experienced professional to join our small but busy consultancy based in Cornwall, initially for a fixed period of 6 months with the potential to be extended to a permanent contract. Their role will be to assist our lead bat ecologist with carrying out initial visual bat surveys, emergence surveys and sound analysis. Experience of reptile surveys and phase one surveys (or PEAs) would be useful but is not essential.

The successful applicant will have the following qualities::

  • A professional attitude
  • Be enthusiastic and energetic
  • Be able to work as part of a small team as well as independently and to follow instructions
  • Be happy to work unsociable hours during the peak survey season (May - October) in exchange for time off during the day
  • Hold a bat survey licence (ideally Class II) and have experience carrying out initial bat surveys
  • Have the ability to produce professional, concise survey reports and field notes
  • Have a full, clean driving licence
  • Have a degree in an Ecology related subject or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject or significant experience in this field

The salary would be based on experience and qualifications. The starting date would be around 1st May 2019 and closing date for applications is the 15th March.
