Do you want to be part of a ground-breaking approach to saving species from extinction? Back from the Brink is a £6.6million National Lottery Heritage Fund supported programme delivered by a partnership of England’s leading nature conservation organisations. We have built a team of enthusiastic and experienced individuals across the partnership to undertake conservation work and inspire the nation to discover, value and act for threatened species. As part of this programme Plantlife are seeking an experienced Project Officer.

About the role:

Plantlife are seeking an experienced Project Officer to deliver the Lesser Butterfly Orchid project. The Lesser Butterfly Orchid (Platanthera bifolia) is a widespread declining species that occurred across much of the UK but has undergone a dramatic decline for reasons only partly understood. This project will work with citizen scientists and leading ecological experts to clarify the reasons for decline; the project will implement a series of trial management techniques at a series of sites in Devon and Cornwall; and will undertake a programme of public awareness to increase both the public and stakeholders’ appreciation of the orchid.

Based in Devon or Cornwall you will coordinate and undertake this species project, supported by a subcontracted consultant and a network of volunteers. You will need to have a proven track record of delivering successful land management and/or species management projects, highly developed species and habitat conservation knowledge and skills and experience of working with volunteers. You will need to demonstrate your ability to run training events, be proactive and be able to communicate with a wide range of audiences.

Please note that we are also recruiting for a Cornish Path Moss, Species Recovery Project Officer - the advert is on this website.
