The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and Black Country arose in 1980 from a small group of campaigners who worked to save Moseley Bog from development. It was the first urban Wildlife Trust established in the UK. The conurbation has 2 million inhabitants and possesses the 1000ha Sutton Park and many large and small pre and post industrial wildlife sites beloved of local people. With 7,500 members, 1,885 volunteers, 19 staff, a strong financial position, and a robust business plan, the Trust looks forward to continuing its leading role in urban nature conservation.

We are now looking for an inspiring leader to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer. This high profile role will have overall management responsibilities for The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country, providing strong and visible leadership for all Trust staff, volunteers and members.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of nature conservation policy and practice, preferably in an urban context. You will have a proven track record of successful leadership and management at a senior level coupled with the ability to get the very best from a motivated team of staff and volunteers. You will also be skilled in raising organisational profile through championing high-level goals to a wide range of decision-makers, opinion formers, funders, media and partner organisations.

A natural and compelling communicator, you will have the diplomacy skills needed to engage and influence diverse audiences and lead a membership organisation. You should also have experience of generating substantial income, ideally in the not for profit sector, along with a track record of strategic planning and initiating projects.

If you can act as an advocate for nature, develop strong relationships and network in the local environmental movement, we would love to hear from you!
