Head of Built Environment (ref: SUS2604)

£39,033 per annum (inclusive of a London Weighting allowance of £3,995pa)

37.5 hours per week – based in London

This is an exciting opportunity to represent Sustrans to professional audiences at conferences and events, and to inspire and lead a team delivering the design aspects of projects to create environments where walking and cycling for short trips is an easy option. You will be a member of London’s Senior Leadership team, helping to set the strategic direction of Sustrans in London, managing key stakeholders and playing an active role in several specialist networks. As part of a UK wide team, you will direct resources, matching skills to contract delivery requirements. You will also be Sustrans in London’s expert in the design and delivery of high quality place-making, cycling and walking schemes.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with demonstrable experience in urban design, highways engineering, landscape or architecture, you will have substantial experience in delivering complex projects at senior level, delivering urban design and infrastructure projects and building strong relations with strategic partners. You will also have a background in setting and achieving strategic direction, project management and of leading teams. Your excellent communications and interpersonal skills will enhance your leadership skills. You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of best practice in urban design and a good working knowledge of transport planning. You will also be committed to the promotion of sustainable transport.
