Seasonal Assistant Ecological Surveyor Fixed Term, Part-time Contract to start mid April 2019 until October 2019 (initially 6 months with possible extension for exceptional candidates)

Darwin Ecology Ltd has a small team of highly skilled ecologists offering a complete range of ecological surveys and contracting services across the South and South-West regions. Excellent surveys standards, effective mitigation and enhancements are at the core of all of our projects.

We are currently recruiting for Seasonal Assistant Ecological Surveyors for the South East and South West offices to assist primarily with bat, reptile and great crested newt survey work during the busy survey season. The candidate will be involved in most aspects of these protected species and will have the opportunity to assist in writing high standard ecological reports, habitat surveys, bat scoping surveys, analysing camera footage of bat surveys and supporting our team of ecologists. Night work and occasional overnight stays on site will be required.

This position is aimed at enthusiastic individuals, with one or two seasons experience, looking to establish themselves as ecologists in the consultancy sector.   • Protected species survey experience and/or botanical surveys
  • Ability to work independently and capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice
  • Prepared to work outside normal working hours, with frequent travel
  • Degree/courses/certificates qualifying you in the relevant ecology/environmental discipline.
  • Ability to write high quality reportsExcellent organisational skills
  • Strong IT skills; Mac OS preferred
  • Full UK driving licence, the use of own vehicle


  • Graduate or Associate member of CIEEM
  • MSc qualification in a relevant Ecology/Environmental Discipline
  • Relevant work experience, placements or studies

Salary in the range of £16-18K pro rata dependent on skills and experience.
