Reserves Assistants – Brecks
Based: NWT East Wretham Heath Reserve
Salary: £17,250 - £18,750 per annum (depending on experience)

The post holders will be based at NWT East Wretham Heath Reserve, in Norfolk, and will have the opportunity to work at other NWT managed sites within the Brecks and Fens including Weeting Heath, Thompson Common, Wissey Wetlands (a habitat creation scheme in the Fens), and heath re-creation sites within Thetford Forest. The Reserves Assistants will carry out a variety of tasks, including habitat & species development, infrastructure maintenance, and using a variety of machinery.

The successful candidates will have a good basic knowledge of wildlife conservation and habitat management techniques. Good communication skills are essential, both with colleagues and members of the public, as is the ability to work as part of a team in managing these important sites. The successful candidates will have been trained in the use of tractors and chainsaws, have experience of working on a nature reserve or similar and experience of maintaining tools and equipment. Experience and/or training in livestock handling, brushcutter, ATV, pesticide use, relevant tractor related implements and first aid would be an advantage.

The posts present the opportunity to work on some of the county’s most important wildlife sites, and enhance valuable skills in the development of nature reserves and their visitors.
