Purpose of the Spill Response Technician role:

The Company are seeking to appoint a Spill Response Technician to join their team based in Risby, leading Spill Response operations for the ECM-East region. The Spill Response Technician will be responsible for the safe progression of works and upholding and adhering to compliant health & safety procedures.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the postholder will be employed on a full-time basis with the need to satisfy overtime requirements and will be required to stay away from home overnight.

Spill Response Technician Responsibilities:

  • Provide a “First Strike” emergency response to newly reported spillage and oil loss incidents with the aim of minimising damage to property, the environment and risk to human health.
  • Ensure the response to such incidents is timely, appropriate, proportionate, safe and effective.
  • Carry out emergency actions under the direction of OHES consultancy staff or, where required, using own initiative, skills, knowledge and pollution control techniques.
  • Maintain a state of readiness within the region to respond to new incidents, ensuring equipment is available and serviceable and stock levels of pollution control consumables are maintained at optimum levels.
  • Provide an OFTEC qualified service to enable emergency pump out and installation of temporary oil tanks and support the OFTEC requirements of the operational region for planned oil tank installation work.
  • Directing, mentoring and developing less experienced members of the team.
  • Any other duties for which the postholder is qualified and experienced to undertake.

Remediation Team Supervisor Requirements:

  • Willingness to be trained in oil tank installation to OFTEC standards
  • Willingness to be trained as a Basic and Freshwater Spill Responder to UKSpill Approved standards.
  • Possess a solid background in site works, either construction or landscaping
  • Ability to use plant and machinery whilst managing personal time to high productivity levels
  • Prepared to travel to any location within the Company’s operational footprint
