About Us

NLG Ecology are seeking Consultant Ecologists and a Senior Ecologist to join our friendly and ambitious ecology team. Established in 2008 we are based in the small town of Bollington, on the edge of the Peak District to the south of Manchester.  We are a highly regarded and successful ecological consultancy with an established presence in the utilities and rail sector across the North West and Midlands of the UK. This success has been built on the provision of pragmatic and robust ecological advice to our stable client base.

Roles 

We are looking for a Senior Ecologist and two experienced Consultant Ecologists capable of undertaking and managing a variety of field surveys and mitigation schemes, report writing and communicating effectively to clients. The successful candidates will enjoy a variety of site and office work which will include Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Phase 1 Habitat and NVC Survey, Protected Species Surveys and Mitigation, Habitat Creation, Ecological Clerk of Works and a variety of other ecological consultancy work.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified to degree level or higher in a relevant field of Ecology, Natural Sciences or a related subject.
  • Associate  membership of CIEEM (or be eligible for)
  • Minimum three years consultancy experience, 5+ years for senior role
  • Good understanding of wildlife legislation and the planning system
  • Strong botanical field skills;
  • Protected species survey licence holder (ideally bat and/ or GCN licence holder);
  • Competent report-writer and for senior role competent project manager;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Excellent client liaison skills;
  • Experience of managing and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Experience of undertaking or managing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) roles.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to think strategically and work with minimal supervision

Desirable for Senior Role:

  • Experience of writing ecology chapters for Environmental Statements
  • Track record of obtaining and being named ecologist on EPS mitigation licences
  • Undertaking habitat regulations assessment
  • Track record of tendering and winning work
