What it's like to work here

We're looking for an inspirational Engagement Manager to lead our approach to engagement and participation and make a lasting difference for nature and people.

You'll be part of a small programme team working in partnership with the Environment Agency at a national level and supporting local teams across England & Wales.

You’ll be based at our head office, Heelis, in Swindon. Working at least 2 days a week in Heelis, you’ll be able to work from home as well as from our regional offices. As this is a national role there will be some travel expected.

You'll be joining an organisation committed to delivering public benefit through connecting people with extraordinary places.

Through Riverlands we have the opportunity to not only make a difference to rivers and local communities, but influence how the Trust and the Environment Agency approaches engagement and participation in the natural environment.

What you'll be doing

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the thinking and approach to public engagement with rivers across these valuable local landscapes. It is about inspiring people with the benefits of local rivers and surrounding habitats and realising the part we all can play in securing a healthy future for rivers and for people.

This role is about having an impact and leaving a legacy. You’ll be working closely with a range of local teams and national partners to embed a more open and collaborative approach to decision making and wider engagement. Everyone should feel welcome to play a part!

You'll also be responsible for identifying opportunities for engagement beyond the local place – whether that is public programming, contemporary art or strong marketing and communications.

You’ll be introducing a programme with change management at its heart, so you’ll need to understand organisational development and be up for working with different internal teams across the Trust and the Environment Agency.

Who we're looking for

This role is all about working with people to engage them and deliver our objectives in a collaborative partnership. We’ll need you to demonstrate the following skills and experience in your application:

  • Partnership working, understanding how to achieve results through collaboration at national and local levels
  • A passion for participation and access to heritage and natural environments
  • Delivering long term impact through working with people and local communities
  • Exceptional communication skills at all levels
  • Strong ethos of delivery, through projects and change management initiatives
  • The ability to inspire with your creative and innovative approach
  • Facilitation skills and the ability to bring the best out of people
  • Experience of creating frameworks to support delivery and evaluation
