Account Handler - Off Grid Sales

Midsummer Energy Ltd

£22,000 - £24,000 pa (depending on experience)

Paid • Full Time • Permanent 01223 858414 Graham Smith

Sectors: carbon, climate & energy, sustainability

Closing date: Thursday, 31st January 2019

Our off-grid department is expanding! With enquiries ranging from solar panels for boat builders in the UK, to off-grid kits powering Nissen huts in Antarctica, our team requires an account handler to become the first point of contact for our off-grid customers.

If you're organised, good at working on your own initiative, and are interested in a role in a growing company that is working towards a future powered by renewable energy, we'd love to hear from you!

The Role

You'll spend a lot of your time dealing directly with customers in person, on the phone and by email, so we expect you to have a relaxed, friendly, and helpful spoken and written manner. You will need to be a great communicator - with the ability to explain details of the products we sell clearly and concisely. As the first point of contact with trade customers, you will need the ability to create meaningful and lasting working relationships. This is an entry level job, but experience or a background in off-grid or renewable energy systems would be a plus.

As we're a small company, roles are fairly loosely defined. You will be given the opportunity to get involved in stock management, learning to specify and calculate off-grid solar kits to meet customers' needs, and many other aspects of the business. You may for example be asked to help with processing and packing orders when we're busy.

About Us

We specialise in solar PV systems. While the bulk of that is wholesale distribution of grid-connect systems, the company started out selling off-grid systems to both retail and trade customers, and that continues to be a growing side of the business and one that you would be helping to develop.

We’ve grown significantly from humble beginnings. Our first storeroom was the front room of a narrowboat, and we’ve outgrown five warehouses since. We're currently based in premises on the outskirts of Cambridge with 8000 sq ft of storage space and offices for our current staff of 18 - with a further 3 people employees working remotely.

We're passionate about the environment, and we've gained a reputation for a helpful and open approach to business. The office is a friendly, dynamic and informal place to work.

What you'll get:

  • A varied daily work life, and insight into all the workings of a small business
  • £22-24K depending on experience and qualifications
  • 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays
  • A friendly office environment

About you

You'll be committed to a sustainable future and passionate about clean energy, and want to work for a company that makes a difference.

You'll be someone who can organise their time well, can see what needs to be done and gets it done. You'll be good at ensuring the details don't get missed as well as seeing the big picture. You'll have capable computer skills and a natural, friendly, and professional manner with customers, both on the phone and over email

This position will suit someone who wants a career that will make a difference. Disappearing into a large organisation or doing the same thing every day doesn't appeal - and you'd like to put your skills to use to make the planet greener as well as earn your keep. You’re ambitious, and prepared to get stuck in to make a company you believe in grow.

Prior experience of the renewable energy sector or office management would be an advantage but is not essential – flexibility, initiative, and an ability to learn new skills quickly are more important. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Please complete the application form via our website, and also email a CV and cover letter marked for the attention of Graham Smith to before Thursday 31st January 2019.
