MacArthur Green specialises in the provision of ornithological, ecological, hydrological, peat and fisheries consultancy services. The sectors we serve include transport, transmission and renewable energy and government. Our work covers the terrestrial and marine environment.

We require a motivated Senior Ecologist, who shares our values, to join MacArthur Green’s specialist team.

Job Description

This successful candidate will report to our Principal Ecologist. The role will include the following:

  • Responsibility for project management, coordination, quality assurance and delivery of ecology projects.
  • Preparation and review of Ecological Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments and technical reports.
  • Preparing and coordinating tender submissions.
  • Designing and managing the delivery of various types of ecological surveys.
  • Managing Ecological Clerk of Works jobs.
  • Line management and leadership.
  • The position will be primarily office based with a small element of field survey where appropriate.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong experience and understanding of the environmental planning system in relation to the production of ecological impact assessments. 
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of the European Birds and Habitats Directives and methods for assessments with regards to European Designated sites.
  • Experience of undertaking or managing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) roles.
  • Strong people management & mentoring skills.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Comprehensive experience of project management.
  • The ability to produce and review high quality reports and deliver them to clients on time and to budget.
  • Educated to higher degree level in ecology or related subject, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
  • Strong IT skill including MS word and excel.
  • Experience of working with regulators and statutory advisors.

The position will be based at MacArthur Green’s Glasgow office, in the west end on the banks of the River Kelvin.
