This is a new position within Organic Arable. We are a small team of which you will be an integral part. And being a small team, from time to time you will be required to undertake a range of additional tasks and so the functions outlined below are the primary roles required but not completely comprehensive.

Our business is to market grain and requires grain to be marketed and so we require suppliers of organic grain who wish to use our marketing services. In order to do this, we need to keep our existing suppliers happy and to recruit more growers to work with us. The primary function of this new position will be to service this requirement. To fulfil this role, you will be visiting and calling existing suppliers and building a network of new suppliers in order to maintain and build relationships. You will be offering advice on grain marketing, sampling grain, selling seed and helping farmers plan their arable cropping.

Alongside this supply development your key functions will be to:

  • manage grain contracts to ensure grain is moved to schedule
  • deal with suppliers’ queries and helping them manage their arable enterprise effectively
  • build relationships with customers to develop our market (focussed on on-farm customers)
  • maintain a social media to build the profile of Organic Arable
  • consider new business opportunities and develop these with the existing team

In addition, you will be required to:

  • contribute to newsletters & website
  • build relationships with other stakeholders in the organic sector
  • ensure good communication with other staff members and the Organic Arable Board
  • assist at industry meetings and events to promote Organic Arable
  • undertake training as required and directed

As Organic Arable is a small business there will be other various other tasks you will be required to perform beyond and in addition to those shown above.

We anticipate this position being home-based and so there is a need to maintain a home office and as significant travel will be required so access to a vehicle is essential.

We are looking for an outgoing, ambitious individual who is able to work alone, on their own initiative. They will be able to set their own agenda and organise their time to fulfil the goals set. They need to be comfortable on farm and around the farming industry and so are likely to have some experience of farm work and will have an understanding of arable farming systems and the arable farming year, so you are able to plan your work accordingly. 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Land Based discipline
  • Experience of farm work or previous work in the agricultural industry
  • High quality MS Office skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Ability to be flexible and work on your own initiative
  • Ability to empathise in order to successfully negotiate between parties 
  • Full Driving Licence 

Desirable Skills & Experience 

  • An understanding of organic farming
  • Experience of the grain industry
  • Knowledge of Office 365 and Sharepoint
  • Public speaking or presenting experience
  • Ability to empathise in order to successfully negotiate between parties
