Background Information

The North Region team is responsible for the management of around 142,000ha of the National Forest Estate, from Caithness in the North, Skye in the west and down to Strathspey. It is led by the North Regional Manager who leads a team of around 113 staff. The Visitor Services team consists of 8 people who cover a wide range of duties. This includes forest recreation, forest tourism, education, health and community development and fully contribute as a member of the North Region team on the National Forest Estate

The workplace will include areas that are recognised internationally for their landscape, environmental and recreational value. The landscape attracts visitors from across the world to experience its diversity, whilst our resident communities have a strong interest in its management. The environment includes a rich archaeological heritage and habitats that include Caledonian pinewoods. The recreational activities span a spectrum from walking and wildlife spotting to mountain biking and water sports.

The Regional Head office is at Smithton near Inverness and additionally has several out-stations. The post will be based in the Glenmore outstation, near Aviemore.

The key responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Visitor Engagement
  • Be risk aware and mindful of Health and safety processes and best practice to ensure the well-being of colleagues and members of the public;
  • Liaise with other region delivery teams and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders and the public, and support programme delivery;
  • Contribute to key community engagements, representing Forest Enterprise Scotland’s interests, facilitating and managing community aspirations as required;
  • Actively report accidents and incidents using FC systems and procedures.
