Mabbett and Associates Ltd (Mabbett), is an independent, integrated environmental, health and safety, energy consulting and engineering firm, and was established in 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland. Since then, the firm has grown to employ 37 motivated engineers, scientists and supporting professionals across the U.K. We have regional offices in: Belfast, Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Inverness and Liverpool.

Mabbett clients include construction and development companies, utilities and utilities infrastructure companies, industrial and commercial organisations. We are seeking to recruit a Senior Ecologist and Project Manager to join our growing team to support technical excellence and business growth. The position will be based in one of our Scotland offices – Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness (although flexible arrangements will be considered) and may require travel, occasional overnight stays throughout the U.K., and further afield depending on project requirements.

Qualifications and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A BSc or MSc in Ecology/EIA/Environmental Planning or related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIEEM and/or be Chartered.
  • CSCS card.
  • Protected species licensing.

Competence in:

  • Construction site operations, how ecology and environmental issues impact on these operations, and how to deliver pragmatic mitigation solutions.
  • Task and project management.
  • Communicating successfully with individuals at all levels.
  • Professional services delivery and technical sales (desirable).

Experience

  • A successful track record of working on ecology and habitat survey project work in Scotland (e.g. bird surveys, bat surveys, water vole, otter, badger and other protected species identification/habitat management plan development, watching brief etc).
  • Construction site experience as Environmental Manager/Senior Ecologist.
  • Management of subcontractors.
  • Experience of development of CEMP documents.
  • Experience of implementing CEMP/ECoW requirements.
  • Experience of management of CAR licensing, SUDS and water management on-site.
  • Excellent report writing and client liaison skills.
  • A thorough and practical understanding of EIA and ecology related legislation such as Habitats Regulations Appraisal (HRA), including best practice guidelines, survey methods, planning processes and environmental assessment methods.
  • Experience of successfully leading communications with regulators and stakeholders such as landowners, SEPA, SNH etc.
  • Commercial expertise and ability to develop scopes of work and budgets for proposals and win work.
  • An ability to deliver practical solutions taking into account commercial considerations.

Skills:

  • Organised, logical and structured with attention to detail.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Ability to pragmatically apply ecology and site environmental management requirements.
  • Creative thinking and ability to identify and drive new business opportunities and projects.
  • Business acumen and awareness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages, including Excel.
  • Proficient in GIS.
  • Full U.K. driving licence and able to drive currently.
  • Language skills (English minimum).
