E3G is looking for a chief operating officer to lead operations across our entire organisation.

About E3G

E3G is a European think tank working to accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy. We build the broad-based coalitions necessary to deliver a safe climate. We pride ourselves on bringing independence to an extremely polarised discussion and holding policy makers to account on their promises. E3G was ranked the fifth most influential environmental think tank in the world by the University of Pennsylvania’s “Go To Thinktank” Index in 2016 and 2017.

E3G operates through a group of four inter-connected entities, with offices in Berlin, Brussels, London and Washington, DC. The COO has a critical role within E3G, working closely in a senior management group with the CEO, Deputy CEO, and Chief Financial Officer, ensuring efficient operations across the E3G group. The COO will have overall responsibility for the effective and successful management of all E3G business and back-office operations, including finance, HR, fund-raising support, health & safety, IT and property.

The successful candidate will have drive and ambition, great people skills, strong business acumen, outstanding work ethic, and a strong commitment to E3G’s core mission and objectives.

The COO’s responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the design, coordination and implementation of business strategies, plans and procedures;
  • Establish policies and procedures that promote company culture and vision;
  • Maintain oversight of daily operations, including the work of finance and operations personnel;
  • Analyse and interpret performance data and metrics;
  • Oversee and develop company management procedures, ensuring consistency of approach across all E3G offices;
  • Maintain strong relationships with partners and a broad range of stakeholders, including key funders in major philanthropic institutions;
  • Work with the senior management team to develop E3G’s business model in response to major events such as Brexit.

The successful candidate’s CV will demonstrate the following:

  • At least ten years senior management experience, including extensive exposure to boardroom processes;
  • Previous experience of working within a multi-office, multi-country business;
  • Educated to degree level;
  • An accounting qualification, or significant financial management experience;
  • An understanding of company law as it relates to small businesses;
  • In-depth knowledge of different business functions such as HR, finance, marketing etc.;
  • Hands on experience of fundraising, strategic planning and business development in a not-for-profit or service-provider/consultancy environment;
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and the development and management of KPIs;
  • Familiarity with IT/business infrastructure;
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Great communication and presentation skills;
  • A problem-solving mindset.

Proficiency in a second European language is desirable but not a requirement.

A remuneration package competitive with the non-profit and public sector will be offered.

The job will be based in the London office.
