Trees for Cities is an independent charity that works with local people to transform urban spaces in cities across the UK and overseas. We work with local communities and partners to plant trees and green cities through urban woodland and neighbourhood tree projects, and to create Edible Playgrounds in schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly-motivated individual to join our development team and play a vital role in expanding our highly-acclaimed Edible Playgrounds programme.

We are looking for two Project Development Officers to engage with schools and local authorities to secure Edible Playground projects in cities across the UK. Focus areas of work will include London, the Midlands, and/or the north of England but may extend into Scotland and Wales.

Edible Playgrounds currently focuses on primary schools but we are interested to hear from candidates with relevant experience to broaden provision to secondary schools, special schools and alternative providers.

This is a permanent, full-time position based at our London office in Kennington, London or, if based in another UK city, we will consider arrangements to work from home or to be hosted by a partner organisation.

This role will require an enhanced disclosure check.

THE SORT OF PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate the benefits of Edible Playground projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build good working relationships internally and externally;
  • Ability to manage own workload and work to targets and deadlines through effective planning and time-management;
  • High level of IT literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, CRMs);
  • Experience of working with schools and local authorities;
  • Good understanding of the environment and education sectors, issues such as lack of access to green space and childhood obesity, and the benefits of outdoor learning.
