Environmental Monitoring Technician

Home based/Operating in the North London area plus regular site visits

Salary dependant on experience and capability

OHES Environmental Ltd, part of the Adler and Allan Group, is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy operating across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. OHES has grown and diversified over the last 16 years to a point where our business is led and staffed by some of the brightest and most experienced consultants in the UK market place. More recently, in response to client demands, the Company have constructed a number of product bundles from their full range of services, which are designed to overcome environmental challenges in specific markets and sectors.

The Company are seeking to appoint an Environmental Monitoring Technician to join their team servicing a major client in the North London area.

Reporting to the Environmental Monitoring Project Manager, theĀ postholder will be required to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the region.

Whilst this is a full time post, there is a requirement to work at weekends and public holidays as part of a flexible staff rota working hours 08:00-18:00; the successful applicant will also be expected to participate in an on-call rota during evenings.

Key tasks and accountabilities associated with this post are as follows:

  • Attending and investigating water pollution incidents across the Thames Valley & Greater London area
  • Undertaking field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling.
  • Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents.
  • Provision of accurate and timely information to line management.
  • Supporting team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels.

This list is not exhaustive and the postholder will be required to satisfy any other task for which they are qualified and experienced to undertake.

Applicants should possess a Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline, an understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters and experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level.

In addition to the above, applicants should possess experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers is essential; understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency and laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance will be an advantage.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills are essential as are excellent communication skills.

The postholder should be motivated, friendly and confident when interacting with clients and consistently deliver excellent service whilst representing the Company in a positive manner.
