London Wildlife Trust is looking to recruit someone with a passion for conservation grazing and grassland restoration, as we look to introduce cattle onto sites in the Colne Valley, as part of a wider Heritage Lottery Funded Colne Valley Landscape Partnership scheme. We are looking to recruit a part time Conservation Officer for 10 months to oversee the installation of infrastructure by contractors on several reserves, develop conservation grazing management plans, and undertake a programme of surveying, training and outreach to raise the profile of the project to the local community.

Some key duties of the role will involve:

  • Recruiting and training a network of volunteer livestock checkers and site wardens
  • Running walks, talks, training sessions and events to engage the local community
  • Maintaining accurate records of income and expenditure to agreed budgets
  • Actively monitoring and evaluating the project alongside other staff, according to the Evaluation Framework and Evaluation Plan

London Wildlife Trust manages more than 35 nature reserves across the capital that are exemplars of urban conservation land management and which greatly benefit the local communities that use these sites. The Trust delivers projects focusing on protecting priority habitats and wildlife species in London and works to influence policy makers to support this work. The Trust engages London’s diverse communities through access to our nature reserves, volunteering programmes and education and outreach work.
