POST TITLE: Community Engagement Officer - Room to Roam Green Travel Hub
CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed term until end of Feb 3rd, 2019, part-time (25 hrs/wk), potential for extension until March 2019 and for flexible working
REPORTS TO: Room to Roam Green Travel Hub Project Manager
REMUNERATION: £23,000 - £25,350 per annum (pro-rata), depending on skills and experience

Background and Job Purpose

Huntly and District Development Trust (HDDT) is an active community anchor organisation serving the market town of Huntly, Aberdeenshire and its wider rural catchment. Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (CCF), CarPlus and Aberdeenshire Council HDDT has been able to develop and promote an innovative rural Green Travel Hub for Huntly and District.

HDDT, in partnership with CoMoUK, is currently seeking a motivated individual for the role of Community Engagement Officer to work with a range of stakeholders to ensure successful promotion of the Huntly Car Club and eBike elements of the Room to Roam Green Travel Hub. The post-holder will be responsible for leading the project on behalf of HDDT.

Project goals

  • To engage with 200 residents in Huntly to promote the local bike share scheme, car club and ride-share schemes
  • To sign up 15+ new members to these schemes
  • To understand people’s attitudes to, and awareness of, shared transport schemes
  • To identify opportunities to modify marketing and/or operational models of schemes to attract new members
  • To write a report on the project and its findings

Main Functions

  • Promote the Co-Wheels Huntly Car Club and eBike schemes within the community
  • Research local businesses and assess the potential for them to use the schemes
  • Contact, and attend meetings with, local businesses to promote the schemes to them
  • Arrange and attend local events to promote the schemes (e.g. through having a stand, or presenting)
  • Promotion through social media
  • Monitor engagement (both qualitatively and quantitatively)
  • Help to write a report on the findings of the project
  • Liaise with HDDT and CoMoUK throughout the project

The role may also include:

  • Arranging events, such as demonstration opportunities to show people how to use the car club vehicles
  • Any other tasks as necessary to assist with the delivery of this project

Required Skills

A. Essential

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under own initiative and under minimal supervision. Can work well as part of a small dynamic team, and has the good judgement on when to bring in others
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Awareness of, and interest in, sustainable transport
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as required, including attending meetings and events in the evenings and at weekends
  • Confident, competent, and responsible in the use of social media

B. Desirable

  • Experience of engaging with the both the public and businesses
  • Knowledge of shared transport schemes
  • Awareness of, and interest in, behaviour change
  • Experience of writing reports
  • Knowledge of Huntly
  • Willingness to travel sustainably for work
  • Sales/marketing background an advantage

  • The postholder will operate from the HDDT office. By agreement, from time to time he/she will also be able to work from home or other location as appropriate.
  • The post suits a positive, outgoing person who is down to earth and can deliver real and tangible results.
  • The post-holder is entitled to 30 days paid holiday per year (pro-rata). This includes public holidays.
