The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland.

The Woodland Trust has acquired and manages over 1,300 sites across the UK. The composition and highly fragmented nature of our estate means it is under increasing threat from numerous animal species which threaten our aims. To help us grow effectively, we’ve identified the need for a UK lead specialising in all aspects of wildlife management. The Estate Manager – Wildlife Management will lead in all aspects of wildlife management, advising, training and supporting operational staff on wildlife management. The role will lead on assessments and planning and will be the liaison point with external partners such as the Deer Initiative. It will be the lead for the department on public and member relations, ideally offering support and advice for our harvesting operations as a secondary skillset.

With a strong background in all aspects of Wildlife Management, you’ll be used to working in a position of responsibility to ensure the management of wildlife on our estate is professionally supported. This role will lead on operational policy, development and review and set up reporting systems, so you’ll need to be able to work closely with colleagues in our conservation advisory and outreach teams to support this. You’ll have strong leadership skills, and be an excellent communicator, able to deliver high quality training and support. You’ll be organised, flexible and able to work under your own initiative. Ideally you’ll have experience with harvesting / forest engineering due to increasing silvicultural activity. Given the nature of the estate, you will be expected to travel throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays away to deliver staff inductions, training, advice and representing the organisation at events and meetings.

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.
