You will be a part of the Marine Biology, Ecosystems and Governance research group within the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, conducting research into the prevalence of microplastics in historic zooplankton samples from the Dove Time Series. You will carry out the processing and identification of zooplankton samples (generous taxonomic training package supplied), isolate and analyse microplastic particles and fibres from within preserved zooplankton specimens, and evaluate the prevalence of microplastics in the base of the marine food chain over long timescales

You should ideally have demonstrable experience in microplastics research, including isolation and identification of plastic polymers. A PhD is desirable (essential for appointment as Research Associate), with similar research experience also considered. Knowledge and experience of Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy would be highly advantageous. Evidence of laboratory based research is essential.

You should be proficient in experimental design, planning and progressing work independently as well as part of a team.
