Ecology Services Ltd (ESL) is an established consultancy based in the Northwest. We are a busy, broad based practice, with experience in most areas of professional consultancy. We are looking to recruit a Senior Ecologist to join our team.

The role:

As a Senior Ecologist, you will be based in Lancashire, with occasional travel to sites within the region and beyond.

Your role will be to prepare, manage and execute the delivery of ecological services for Clients across a wide range of project sectors including water, energy, transport, residential and mixed-use development schemes. Good team-working and communication skills will be essential, as well as flexibility, as the role will demand collaborative working with other Ecologists, environmental colleagues and professionals, to deliver challenging programmes of work.

Tasks will be diverse and include surveying, technical reporting, liaison with Clients and colleagues within ESL and preparation of bids. As such, the role will be likely to involve a dynamic split of time between office and field environments. Skills required are described in more detail below.

Skills and experience required for the role:

  • Strong experience in a range of surveys - including habitat and protected species surveys (mammals/amphibians/reptiles, bats and birds in particular).
  • Management and co-ordination of projects, including organisation and delivery of species survey programmes to time and budget.
  • Demonstratable skills and experience of EPS mitigation licences and ideally experience in EcIA and/or HRA.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, with innovative and creative solutions.
  • Significant experience (typically 5+ years) of working in the consultancy sector, for a range of Clients.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills and experience in editing colleagues reports and providing feedback.
  • Protected species survey licenses (bats, great crested newts, dormice etc.).
  • Good botanical skills.
  • Full driving license.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor degree in ecology or related subject
  • Full membership of CIEEM and ideally chartership (or working towards this).

We offer a competitive salary, a friendly, dynamic and flexible working environment, where we support and encourage professional development and training.
