The Role:

Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) is Scotland’s circular economy expert. We believe that moving to a more circular economy, where we minimise waste and make things last for longer, has the potential to transform our economy and sustain our natural environment.

Food waste is one of our key organisational priorities and Zero Waste Scotland is leading work on the Scottish Government target to reduce Scotland’s food waste by 33% by 2025.

To help achieve this target, Zero Waste Scotland is piloting a two-year food waste campaign in Dundee and the surrounding areas. By focusing activity in this region, the project aims to prove whether a concentrated campaign will drive greater results in food waste reduction.

The Candidate:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident individual to lead our regional activity for this campaign. The individual needs to be passionate about making a positive change on the way we value food and excellent at encouraging behaviour change. The role of the Regional Food Waste Development Officer will be to drive awareness of food waste prevention, facilitate action to address avoidable food waste and to identify and develop waste reduction collaboration opportunities. By acting as our ‘feet on the ground’ in Dundee, Angus and Fife, the officer will be embedded into the region and will gain excellent insight into the challenges and opportunities of reducing food waste.

The successful applicant will work with primary and secondary schools to raise awareness of food waste and support them to create change within the school setting. They will engage pupils, teachers and catering staff on the ‘true cost’ of food and the full implications and impacts of wasting food. The officer will also work with small and micro businesses to identify and act upon opportunities for change. They will carry out initial food waste monitoring and measuring activities with businesses, followed by a range of hands-on support to help make food waste prevention a reality.

The officer will also be expected to engage with wider community, public sector and business stakeholders in order to roll out the food waste message to a broad range of audiences and ensure that there are a series of touchpoints through which engagement can occur. This will include attendance at events, linking into third party campaigns and programmes, and ensuring that all agencies are coordinated in their efforts to reduce regional food waste.

This role is based in Zero Waste Scotland’s Stirling office located next to Stirling railway station, however a large proportion of the day to day activity will involve travel throughout Dundee, Fife and Angus, so the candidate must be willing and capable of travelling on a regular basis.

Salary & Benefits:

In return for your commitment we offer excellent benefits including a contributory pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, employee welfare assistance, generous holidays and childcare vouchers.

Closing Date: 12 noon, Tuesday 2nd October 2018.
