About the role:

This role is for a committed and experienced investigative campaigner who will join EJF’s global team, gathering evidence of environmental abuses and delivering solutions to them.

EJF is dynamic, agile, creative and results-focused. The role will join our world-leading team of professionals working to protect human rights, wildlife and our shared natural world.

The Investigator – Campaigner’s portfolio will work across the oceans, climate, plastics, forests and cotton campaigns: investigating and campaigning for positive change by targeting key influencers and decision-takers in industry, governments and the media. The role will require strategic and creative thinking and excellent communication skills, working alongside the film and comms teams to maximize our engagement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Research threats to the natural environment and human rights, producing compelling evidence, including film and photos gathered on in-country investigations.
  • Produce high-quality reports and briefings and contribute to the production of visual materials aimed at multiple audiences and media platforms.
  • Bring the highest levels of professionalism and expertise together with creative thinking to implement cutting-edge strategies.
  • Create winning presentations and effective messaging in the UK and internationally.
  • Nurture partnerships and local teams, building their capacity and managing them to success.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Proven track record in delivering measurable, high-impact outputs and outcomes for environmental or human rights campaigns.
  • Experienced in research and field-based investigations and working in hostile or challenging environments.
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills to diverse audiences and using multiple media platforms.
  • Creative thinking and ability to build effective campaign strategies.
  • Willingness to address difficult issues, think laterally to solve problems and build partnerships, understanding the need for integrity, tenacity and determination to secure positive outcomes.
  • Independent working with minimal direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills contribute to teamwork and outreach.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Understanding that change is not easily won, but worth winning.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of film-making, photography or journalism/published writing.
  • Proficiency in other language/s (especially French, Spanish, German, Chinese).
