Senior Environmental Consultant – EIA – Glasgow

Would you like to join our Environmental team in Glasgow and work on a wide variety of exciting projects? 

The Role

You will be an environmental topic specialist developing more general EIA coordination skills, or an environmental planner with experience in particular sectors, such as energy. You will come from a planning or environmental consulting background and will have or will be close to achieving RTPI and/or IEMA (or similar) full membership. Whilst based in Glasgow, the successful candidate must expect to work at times in our Edinburgh office to support projects based there and to travel to other Arup offices.

We are looking for an environmental specialist/planner to assist in a multi-disciplinary team. The role will include:

  • Providing topic specific technical knowledge into projects and EIAs, such as air-quality or health
  • Coordinating or supporting the coordination of EIAs
  • Preparing Environmental Statements and other environmental reports
  • Advising clients on the UK development planning systems (including in England)
  • Project managing multidisciplinary environmental teams
  • Co-ordinating work of engineers and other environmental technical specialists
  • Client facing on projects
  • Business development and winning new work, with support from others
  • Managing the environment team in Glasgow when the team leader is away
  • Line management of junior staff

Skills/Experience required for the role

  • Around six years of post-graduate consultancy experience
  • Degree qualified in environmental science or other related field
  • Ideally a post-graduate qualification of MSc or higher
  • Current track record of working on environmental projects (onshore and/or offshore), in a consulting environment
  • Able to work in general environmental and EIA coordination, and ideally also as an environment specialist in a topic such as air quality
  • Developing business development skills, networking and work winning
  • Excellent project management experience, including QA procedures and financial systems

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

  • A track record and good working understanding of the energy sector
  • Be chartered or close to achieving chartership with a relevant institution (likely IEMA)
