Where you’ll work

You will be based at the Brent Public Realm Offices in Alperton, near Wembley. The role will require working across the London Borough of Brent.

What you’ll do

As the Communications, Education and Outreach (CEO) Officer you will research, develop and deliver communications, education and outreach projects to promote sustainable behaviours among residents and key stakeholders across Brent. Supporting behaviour change with the public, as well as improvements to the performance of the services we offer, will be vital to the success of the role to help improve the local area and environment.

Activities could include:

  • Researching, developing and leading new projects and campaigns to increase recycling
  • Communicating with residents on recycling and waste issues, ensuring that information provided is of the highest possible standard and conforms to the correct format and style
  • Providing press and social media support, including the preparation of news releases
  • Briefing and managing design agencies, printers and other third party suppliers to provide effective marketing materials, as well as copywriting
  • Attending and organising community events
  • Providing education sessions and presentations for school groups and communities
  • Liaising with the operational team on service issues and providing solutions to resident enquiries
  • Conducting internal PR to engage with staff

The above is a summary of main duties only, other duties may be required to meet the changing nature of this role. The successful candidate will also work outdoors and will sometimes be required to work flexible working hours as part of projects or events.

Your skills and experience

To excel in this role you will need to be a persuasive communicator, self-motivated, have excellent attention to detail, and strong organisational skills. You will be enthusiastic, creative and passionate about the environment, with a real desire to improve recycling in the borough. To enable you to carry out this role you will have:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proven experience in project planning and management
  • Strong organisational, planning and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English with a high degree of attention to detail
  • Able to demonstrate creativity and innovation
  • Highly computer literate
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Understanding of communications and marketing processes
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in environmental communications, waste management or a related subject
  • Full driving licence
  • Experience of working in the public service sector or environmental industries (desirable)
  • Experience of engagement and outreach work with the public and school children (desirable)
  • Social media and press experience (desirable)
