About the role:

We are looking for a graduate or assistant Landscape Architect to join the team at the forefront of landscape and seascape planning in the UK. You will have the opportunity to learn from experts in a range of fields including:

  • Landscape character assessment
  • Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA)
  • Seascape, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (SLVIA)
  • Landscape planning research
  • Landscape sensitivity studies
  • Landscape design, mitigation and implementation
  • Green infrastructure projects
  • Planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change.

You will be part of a friendly, award winning, multi-disciplinary team of landscape architects, planners and ecologists, committed to delivering high quality work with a strong emphasis on sustainable and innovative solutions.

The post will be based in LUC Glasgow’s west end office, but you will have extensive opportunities to undertake landscape fieldwork across Scotland, the UK and further afield, with close collaboration with teams across LUC’s other UK offices.

In particular, you will be involved with projects such as:

  • Landscape and visual impact assessments of electricity grid infrastructure in National Parks, National Scenic Areas and AONBs
  • Assessment and design inputs to a major eco-tourism development in the Highlands
  • Routeing studies for electricity infrastructure projects across Scotland
  • Studies of landscape sensitivity to housing development and renewable energy development
  • LVIA as part of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a range of development types
  • High profile infrastructure projects such as assessment and design for sections of HS2
  • Niche international assignments

Whatever your stage of progress towards professional qualification, we will support and sponsor your Pathway to Chartership with the Landscape Institute. This role will enable you to gain the breadth and variety of experience required, with opportunities to work with our landscape design team, as well as participating in all stages of projects from initiation to completion.

We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this role.

About you:

We are seeking a Landscape Architect or Landscape Planner – either recently graduated, or with some relevant work experience.

We would be particularly interested to hear from you if you have experience in the preparation of LVIAs, but we are also keen to meet with graduates who have developed skills in other areas but have an understanding of the context and principles of LVIA.

We would prefer your qualifications to include a relevant Bachelors or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. However, as well as candidates with accredited landscape qualifications, we also welcome applications from candidates with planning, geography or similar related qualifications if you can demonstrate experience or understanding of the work and a passion for the subject.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will be able to plan and structure reports well and convey information in a clear and concise manner.

A good graphical hand and an awareness of landscape design skills would be an advantage, but is not essential.

An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines is important, as is the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients, often working within multidisciplinary teams.

A knowledge of, or interest in learning, relevant software packages including ArcGIS, ReSoft Windfarm, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign etc.), SketchUp would be advantageous.

A full clean diving licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork is essential.
