RESERVE WARDEN

Hours: 5 days per week, Sunday to Thursday (including bank holidays)

Average of 40 hours per week

As a multiple award winning visitor attraction, we take huge pride in our work supporting and developing our beautiful environment in the heart of the Wensum Valley. We are looking for an experienced Reserve Warden to join our dedicated team.

The purpose of this role is to work proactively in the day-to-day management of the reserve, undertaking habitat creation and maintenance to support our diverse natural species, alongside delivering an excellent visitor and volunteer experience. You should not be averse to working with our captive collection to cover holiday periods of our aviculture team. This is a varied and physical role undertaking a range of conservation work, manually and using powered equipment, in all weathers, keeping the Park looking its best whatever the season.

With a focus on conservation, you will be confident engaging with visitors about our work, talking to them about everything from habitat management through to our breeding and release programmes and assisting with general enquiries. You will also be comfortable talking about conservation issues in meetings and able to host visitor events.

Your Experience

The ideal person will have several years’ experience in a similar role and/or previous work experience in Habitat Management. You will be a good team player able to motivate and communicate, as you will be expected to deputise for the Manager. A passion for nature conservation is essential and you will have high-level skills in habitat restoration and species identification, ideally holding a relevant qualification. Prior experience of working with volunteers would be desirable along with a desire to develop further in the role.

Being physically fit and active is also essential due to the demands of the role. You need to be competent with machinery and equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, mowers, tractors and dumpers and ideally have pesticide experience, along with PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates that would be an advantage.
