We are seeking an experienced Ranger with a track record of delivering community and/or wellbeing projects, to join our friendly team. You will lead on implementing community, wellbeing and volunteer outcomes and contribute to horticultural, amenity and conservation work, ensuring successful delivery of the £1.2m ‘Durlston Pleasure Grounds’ Project.

Durlston Country Park National Nature Reserve is owned and managed by Dorset County Council for people and wildlife. Wildflower meadows, woodland, downland, sea cliffs and award-winning Durlston Castle, attract 250,000+ visitors per annum.

With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘Parks for People’ programme, the project will revitalise and celebrate the Grade II listed landscape of the ‘Durlston Pleasure Grounds’ for nature and community.

Summary of the Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Recruit, manage and train project volunteers
  • Establish and develop the ‘Everyone Needs a Shed!’ project
  • Develop opportunities for people with disabilities, dementia or who are socially isolated to volunteer and visit
  • Carry out horticulture, amenity and conservation work
  • Management and supervision of apprentices, volunteers and placements
  • Promote the project and opportunities to the local community, stakeholders and media
  • Support development of a training programme
  • Support development of a community transport scheme
  • Develop links between the Country Park, local community, partner organisations and other attractions
  • Project and personal administration, including procurement, financial recording, report writing and effective communications
  • Contribute to the day-to-day running of Durlston Country Park NNR, including visitor services, facilities and learning
