We are seeking an experienced chef with working knowledge of delivering on a variety of events from supper clubs and private dining through to catering for corporate parties and weddings. As this role is for an initial period of 3-4 months it is important that you have the skills and confidence to hit the ground running as well as previous experience of managing a team of chefs. Most importantly you will be creative and passionate about cooking delicious vegetarian and seasonal dishes. 

The Events Lead Chef is responsible for all aspects of Event Catering at the Skip Garden. This is mostly onsite catering, but can also involve off-site catering at other venues and with the Skip Garden mobile kitchen bike. You will manage teams of Chefs, interns and volunteers during events. You will develop ideas and menus to grow the Events Catering concept, and ensure effective costing and pricing for Skip Garden event catering. You will be responsible for maintaining events catering equipment in good order, and for Health and Safety oversight for Skip Garden Events. You will also work closely with the garden team to ensure that ingredients used in the food reflects the garden.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Menu design, costing and pricing for Skip Garden Events, working with the Events Manager to ensure seasonal menus are available well in advance to enable promotions and bookings
  • Work closely with events manager on design and delivery of both private and ticketed events (such as supper clubs)
  • Prepare seasonal, vegetarian meals for events, together with a team of freelance chefs
  • Work closely with the Cafe manager to ensure effective staffing and smooth running of events. You will be responsible for informing the Cafe Manager of required staffing levels for upcoming events.
  • Oversee and manage the events catering teams during events
  • Ensure consistency and quality control of events food/drinks offer and customer service
  • Ensure the kitchen and outdoor food sites are kept to a high standard of cleanliness, in keeping with all the current HACCP guidelines. Oversee Health & Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene administration and training for Skip Garden Events.
  • Oversee stock-buying requirements for event catering and work closely with Cafe Manager correct stock is ordered and available for Skip Garden events.
  • Support the promotion and marketing of the Skip Garden Kitchen and venue hire
  • Ensure good maintenance of kitchen events equipment (e.g. pizza oven, tableware) and cool store.
  • For one day a week you will be responsible for preparing seasonal, vegetarian meals and running food service in the cafe

Skills & Experience

  • At least 2 years in a commercial kitchen environment, such as a restaurant or catering kitchen
  • Experience of managing a team in the kitchen
  • Creative and passionate about food, with specific experience and interest in cooking vegetarian seasonal food
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills
  • A very flexible attitude - there is a lovely atmosphere at the Skip Garden but we also work long hours and need to be flexible depending on what is on and what is needed
  • Interest in working outdoors and passion for the natural environment
  • Empathy with Global Generation’s ethos
  • Level 2 Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 desirable but not essential)
