Closing date: Wednesday, 29th August 2018

Plantlife has been working with the public, local authorities and national highways agencies to change how we manage our road verges better for wild flowers and wildlife. We are now looking for an experienced campaigner who will take our Road Verge campaign to the next level.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

From liaising knowledgeably with highways and local authorities and contractors, to helping plot attention-grabbing public campaigns, to advising concerned local residents; this new role is for an experienced campaigner and communicator who wants to make a difference to the wild flowers and wildlife on the UK’s road verges.

Working closely with the communications and policy teams, you will pull together all the strands of Plantlife’s multi-faceted campaign and help us to achieve our ultimate aim of a wholesale change to the way we manage our road verges.

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Create and be responsible for a strategic and detailed campaign plan to help us bring as many local authorities on board with Plantlife’s management guidelines
  • Work closely with local authorities and other highways authorities to overcome the barriers (e.g. public perception) to adopting our guidelines
  • Communicate the importance/relevance of high quality road verge habitats to national policy drivers across the UK e.g. pollinator strategies
  • Support highways authorities in implementing Plantlife’s best practice
  • Provide regular blogs, updates and case studies to the communications, development and policy teams
  • Respond to the many public queries Plantlife receives asking for help and guidance on road verge management and highway authority liaison, understanding that these are all opportunities to not only promote the campaign but also Plantlife to potential supporters
  • Attend conferences and be comfortable with public speaking
  • Sit on national working groups (GB)
  • Reporting to funders regularly on campaign activities
  • Attend fortnightly communications and quarterly policy group meetings
  • Undertake from time to time any other duties that may be required of you within this role and to support the effectiveness of Plantlife overall
