Policy Officer – Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA)

ADBA is seeking to appoint a Policy Officer to develop the association’s industry-leading information on the dynamic anaerobic digestion market.

About ADBA

We are an energetic trade body representing 400 members in the anaerobic digestion industry, formed in 2009 to support the growth of the industry. Anaerobic digestion is a technology that produces renewable energy and biofertiliser from wastes, which is essential for the UK and the world to meet climate change targets. AD now provides enough energy to power 1.2 million homes across the UK.


The Policy Officer will be responsible for collecting industry data and collating and publishing data and analysis in bespoke publications relevant to the industry and government. The role will ensure that ADBA has the best industry data, and that it is presented in relevant and useful formats to support the industry and influence government.

Job description

  • Collecting and analysing industry data and statistics, including primary research through engaging member businesses
  • Writing reports and articles about the industry
  • Providing data and analysis in response to public consultations and requests for information
  • Providing market analysis on key areas such as financial incentives, sustainability criteria and planning decisions
  • Keeping up-to-date with research and innovation in the industry and forming views on the impact of new technologies
  • Representing ADBA at external meetings and events
  • Keeping members and public areas of the website updated
  • Responding to member enquiries in relevant areas
  • Responding to government consultations and requests for information from ADBA’s marketing, policy and public relations staff
  • Other relevant tasks as required to support the Association’s objectives.

Person specification


  • This role is suitable for a graduate with good experience of working in parliament, public affairs or policy analysis and development.
  • The successful candidate will be intelligent, dependable and motivated, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently, meet deadlines and produce high quality written work.
  • Strong communication and quantitative analytical skills are essential.
  • Experience dealing with high profile stakeholders is also required.
  • Demonstrable commitment to sustainability, renewable energy and/or the green economy.


  • Education or experience in a relevant analytical subject such as science, economics, engineering or geography, or in environmental sciences
  • Knowledge of anaerobic digestion (and/or agriculture, waste or renewable energy) is an advantage but not necessary.
  • Experience of managing projects or areas of work would also be advantageous.
