Job Description: We are looking for an ecologist to work in our Environment Team that supports the maintenance, operation and improvement of the M25.

Preferred Location: South Mimms (Potters Bar); Possible Location Leatherhead

Who are we?: We are Connect Plus Services (CPS); a Joint Venture consortium which has a 30-year >£2billion contract to maintain, operate and improve the M25 that encircles London - the UK busiest motorway! The consortium is comprised of three companies; Atkins, Balfour Beatty and Egis and has ~600 staff covering the full range of skills and experience required to deliver our complex infrastructure needs. If successful, you will be employed by Atkins but working full time within the CPS business.

The 30-year contract means that we need an ever-increasing focus on true whole life asset management and so we will expect you to be happy to challenge and take on new challenges, do things differently and innovate. We will want you to immerse yourself in our collaborative working culture and the embrace the positive behaviours we will need to help us achieve our imperatives; which are to:

  • Make journeys safer for both customers and our workforce;
  • Improve the network to minimise delays and congestion and giving customers the best possible experience; and,
  • Deliver work in an efficient and effective way, providing value for money and minimising disruption, as well as mitigating the impact on communities.

You can find out more about our business priorities, culture and, most importantly, our people and what excites and drives them at www.connectplusservices.co.uk.

Requirements: Membership of IEEM and holder of one or more of any European Protected Species licence issued by Natural England – preferably for great crested newts and hazel dormice. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities: The role entails organising and undertaking ecological surveys along the highway corridor. Designing and overseeing implementation of biodiversity schemes. Providing ecological advice to contactors and designers. Undertaking environmental assessments.

Your Development Needs: During your career development meetings with your CPS Line Manager we will discuss both your performance and how we can meet your development needs. Not only will you have access to training provided by both CPS and Atkins / SNC Lavalin group but we will encourage you to participate in knowledge sharing forums both within CPS and Atkins. And we can also actively support you with gaining appropriate qualifications.

One of the benefits our staff embrace at CPS is that they can experience a broad range of career patterns from within the CPS business. However, if in the future you decide with your Line Manager that CPS can’t meet your development needs we will work closely with you and our networks within Atkins to help you identify the next steps on your career.
