About the role

This is a fixed term contract until 31 March 2019 (with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months which would include work in other areas of Devon).

Resource Futures is recruiting a Waste and Recycling Advisor to join a team of three working in Devon. The aim of this post is to promote recycling and waste prevention in the north-eastern area of Devon (specifically East Devon District and Exeter). It is an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience in behavioural change work within the environmental field.

Main duties will include talking with residents on their doorstep, promoting recycling/waste prevention and discussing any problems residents may be experiencing, attending roadshows and other events, as well as some periods of monitoring (i.e. logging down which houses are/are not participating in recycling and which are contaminating their recycling), for which full training will be given.

The post will involve extensive travelling and whilst we support sustainable travel, many of the locations will not be accessible by public transport. You will therefore have a full, clean driving licence plus access to a car and willingness to drive on a daily basis, or alternatively, another suitable method of travel. The post holder is also likely to be asked to distribute some recycling containers as part of their daily work.

Results of daily activity will be recorded and for this some home working may be required but you will also hot desk at Local Council offices where appropriate.

Post holders will be contracted to work 37.5 hours per week. Some flexible working will be required such as early mornings, early evenings and occasional weekend work.

The successful candidate will ideally live in or near north-east Devon or must be willing to relocate at short notice and assurance/evidence of ability to do this will be required.

There are two other Waste and Recycling Advisors already in post and all of you will support each other in your roles as needed. Day to day management of your role will be by local authority officers Devon and line management support and training will be provided by Resource Futures.
