Job Title: GIS Officer
Salary: £21-23,000 per annum
Hours: 40 per week
Base: Upton Cheyney (near Bath)

Job Purpose

To provide technical support on a range of environmental planning projects related to green space, arboriculture and ecology. You will be part of a small, versatile team working together on a range of projects. The focus of the job will be GIS mapping, data management and managing and presenting ecological data and records. In addition, the role will also involve assisting with ecological surveys and open space audits as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • GIS mapping of open spaces, including analysing provision, producing maps for reports and webmaps;
  • GIS mapping of habitats and protected species surveys;
  • Assist in the design and scheduling of automated workflows (e.g. python) for managing large and complex datasets;
  • To keep abreast of the latest GIS, mapping and surveying developments, adopt best practice and help with the development of new data-based tools and services;
  • To take ownership of projects that improve systems and processes within Ethos;
  • Assist in field surveys, habitat/site mapping using ESRI mobile apps;
  • Analyse ecological records and data, and producing summary report;
  • Analysis of ecological field data (e.g. bat records) and producing reports and data;
  • Develop and manage data in Excel and Access;
  • Travel to and from sites across the UK;
  • Occasional unsociable hours including overnight stays as required;
  • Lone working;
  • To perform any other duties consistent with the nature and grade of the role as agreed with the line manager.

Terms and Conditions

  • Flexible working hours are available, including working from home, to be agreed with the Managing Director;
  • Annual leave entitlement is 25 days plus bank holidays;
  • Fuel allowance will be payable at 0.40p per mile for work-related matters;
  • Work-related expenses will be paid and claimed for monthly;
  • Statutory Sick Pay and Maternity leave will apply in line with the most recent government guidance;
  • We will provide a minimum of 4 days formal training per year (in house or external);
  • A contributory pension scheme is available to employees where up to 4% of salary can be paid in by employees which is matched as a salary addition by the employer;
