The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. We own and care for over 1,000 woodland sites across the United Kingdom and support the creation and management of woodland on others’ land.

The Hertfordshire Site Managers portfolio includes the extremely well visited Sites of Tring Park and Heartwood Forest and incorporates significant visitor engagement and community interest, alongside PAWS restoration projects, SSSI, parkland & veteran tree management as well as care of recently planted sites. As Site Manager for Hertfordshire, you will represent the Woodland Trust locally, managing the woodland estate in line with our required standards and guidelines and ensure the safety of yourself, our visitors, contractors and volunteers on our sites.

With a relevant qualification and previous experience in land-based management in the forestry or conservation sector, you’ll have a strong track record of budget and contract management, successful relationship building and a proven responsibility for the management of Health and Safety on site. The Site manager will be responsible for the management of a group of passionate volunteers, so you’ll need experience working with volunteers, along with some knowledge of balancing increased visitor footfall against conservation aims. In additional you’ll need to be solution focussed with excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and be able to work collaboratively. The Site Manager will be expected to live within, or within a reasonable travel distance of the management area.

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.
