Women's Environmental Network (WEN) are seeking a proactive and dynamic coordinator for the newly formed Tower Hamlets Food Partnership.  This is a job-share for 2 days per week for 12 months with the possibility to extend with funding.

About the role

Established with the Local Authority, community organisations, social landlords and local businesses, the Partnership will build on WEN’s existing local networks to push forward the food agenda.  This is an exciting opportunity to help improve the food system in Tower Hamlets, an area where food is “at the heart of some of our greatest problems but is also a vital part of the solution”.

Newly registered with Sustainable Food Cities, the Partnership will link closely with WEN's work over the past 8 years supporting community gardening through the Tower Hamlets Food Growing Network. As hosts of the partnership we will take a strategic view of the local food system that builds on community knowledge. The Partnership will be key to understanding current challenges and exploring ways of strengthening local food work, pushing for policy improvements, implementing the Food Poverty Action Plan, and the Mayor's Food, Health and Environment Strategies and championing the importance of food across sectors.

It is an exciting but also challenging task to galvanise the partnership, research and build relationships across sectors, and spearhead development and implementation of an action plan that will make a real difference to the lives of people in Tower Hamlets.

This is a 12 month contract, however there is commitment to extend this and funding bids have already been submitted. Reflecting a crossover in terms of relationship building, outreach and community engagement, this position is a job share with our current Local Food Coordinator Maddy Evans who leads on local delivery of community food growing initiatives.
