Data Officer, Cities, States and Regions Team
15 months fixed term contract, London-based 

Job purpose and background:

CDP has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual with proven self-starter skills to support the Cities, States and Regions team (CStaR). The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing the use of cities data by city governments and other key stakeholders by understanding and defining the requirements for data use across all CStaR stakeholders and partners. The focus of the role is to enhance usability and data visualisation of our data products and services to strengthen CDP's position as premium data provider and solidify our unique selling point. Over 500 city governments and 100 state and regional governments worldwide use CDP’s system every year to report their progress on tackling climate change. Major universities, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the IPCC, and hundreds of other organizations rely on CDP’s data for research and decision-making.

The role is based in CDP’s London office and reports directly to the Operations Manager in the CStaR team. The role will be a fixed term contract of 15 months with the potential to extend based on future funding.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Continually update and improve the user experience and usability of our products and services such as Snapshot Reports, Analytics, and Open Data Portal etc.
  • Identify, develop and implement reporting and analysis tools to meet partners’ and stakeholders’ data requirements.
  • Increase the use of our data products and services amongst city governments and other stakeholders by capturing and analysing key stakeholder requirements and translating them into enhanced offerings.
  • Develop new products and services which meet the needs of stakeholders in collaboration with the business analyst, senior data analyst and developer.
  • Coordinate with internal and external IT partners to ensure the design and delivery of solutions meet program requirements.
  • Conduct quantitative research and present findings in reports and presentations in collaboration with the senior data analyst.
  • Respond quickly to data analysis and visualization requests from internal and external partners.
  • Input on user experience on collaborative data collection processes with other partners e.g. ICLEI.
  • Work closely together with the senior data analyst to ensure best quality outputs as well as efficient and robust processes.
  • The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and it may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs. 

Required skills and experience:

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. V look-ups, pivot tables etc.) 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards
  • Self-motivation and an ability to take initiative
  • A positive and enthusiastic team player with the ability to work under pressure
  • 1-2 years of prior office work experience ideally in a similar role 
  • Strong English language skills 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in data visualisation tools
  • Experience in research and writing reports 
  • An interest in working for an environmental NGO and a passion for sustainability topics 
  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation issues
  • Experience in SharePoint 

The Data Officer role is a full-time role based in CDP’s Central London Office. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week. You will be offered a 15 months fixed term contract, ideally starting as soon as possible.

Salary and benefits: Competitive NGO salary, flexible working, 24 days of annual leave p.a.
