The South Downs National Park Authority cares for the landscapes, wildlife, and heritage of the National Park and helps people to learn about, understand and enjoy the area. The SDNPA has an important role in supporting the local communities that live and work in the park and balancing their needs with ensuring the protection and enhancement of the natural landscape. As a consequence of these demands the SDNPA is one of the biggest planning authorities in England.

We want to encourage the next generation to understand and appreciate the park and the importance of the work of the SDNPA in protecting this unique natural environment. To support this key objective we are about to embark on an ambitious Apprenticeship Programme. This is specifically targeted at younger people who wish to embark on a career in the area of environmental conservation both on the front line ranger teams and in our support services “back office” teams.

To ensure we are able to offer the appropriate level of encouragement and direction to those transitioning between full time education and the work environment we are looking to recruit an Apprentice Supervisor. Ideally with a background in working with young people, general management skills, the ability to support our apprentices in recording their progress, undertake assessments and liaising with local employers this will be a key post in ensuring our scheme achieves high level outcomes. The post holder will also be directly supervising our apprentice rangers at certain times so will need to be able to undertake a wide range of practical skills which includes the use of chainsaws, brush cutters, pesticides, /4x4 driving etc. and training will be given in this area if required.

If you are interested in this role and believe you can make a positive contribution to embedding and developing this new programme then we would like to hear from you.
